Analyze: TV Entertainment

So my journalism teacher assigned my class the blog assignment for the week : Pick your strongest post and your weakest post and analyze your writing. What is working? What isn't working? What do you want to improve in the next six weeks? What steps will you take to make that happen?

In my opinion, my weakest post has got to be my most recent one, New Fall 2011 Shows, and my strongest: New Girl.

Why did I choose these as my weakest and strongest?

To be honest, it took me fifteen minutes at the most to write and post New Fall 2011 Shows. I did not double-check for errors like I should have, and I was not able to give as much input and opinion into my post as I had wanted. I did the basics and did a quick summary of some, not all, of the shows I listed.

Unlike New Fall 2011 Shows, I actually spent a good hour contemplating on what style and how I was going to write New Girl. I actually watched the first two episodes and did background research before I began typing.

In the next six weeks, I would like to improve in managing my schedule so that I will have an adequate amount of time to write and brainstorm what will be on my blog posts. My schedule for the weekdays are usually jam-packed, so I will most likely be taking some time from the weekends to do my blog posts.

The popular Charlies' Angels are back! A car thief, a corrupted cop and a car thief fight crime and work for the mysterious Charlie Townshend in this captivating new series.

The X Factor

The X Factor is a television talent show franchise that originated from the United Kingdom. It is a singing competition held in various countries and is produced my executive producer Simon Cowell from American Idol.

Last Man Standing
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjbY6E65Np8
Tim Allen from Home Improvement, returns to ABC on Tuesdays at 8pm.

Terra Nova
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6aNEIZwPFc
Terra Nova is an American science fiction drama television series about going back in time because of lack of resources, poor air quality, and overpopulation. The setting first begins in the year 2149 and is quickly brought back to the dinosaur age (815 million years back), by the use of a massive ring-shaped structure creating a rift in space-time, and allowing time travel to happen. My mom loves this show and I would recommend it to sci-fi fanatics.

I have not yet seen all of them, but from what I have heard, they are all really great shows--except for Last Man Standing. Due to a busy schedule, I could not write as much as I had hoped to on this post. Sorry! Stay tuned for more.

New Generation of Cartoons ?

As I came home one evening and unlocked the door to my house, I hear kissing noises coming from the living room. Bewildered, I walked into the living room only to discover my ten-year-old brother watching the new Total Drama Island, a recent cartoon series on Cartoon Network. On the television screen, one can see two cartoon characters "making out". This cartoon is supposedly a "reality TV show", which makes no sense since cartoons are the exact opposite of reality.

I thought to myself, what ever happened to the good old cartoons?

Nowadays, every time I come home in the evening, I find my little brother watching cartoons like "Adventure Time with Finn and Jake", "Flapjack", "The Regular Show", and many other pointless Cartoon Network shows with no good story plot. From time to time, I'd join my brother and watch for awhile as I eat my dinner.

Most of these shows are a let down, due to the fact they are sometimes too melodramatic, the ending is predictable, and they spend half the time trying to be "funny", in a pointless way.

One particular show is "The Regular Show"(apparently they could not even think of a better name), which revolves around the life of a talking raccoon and some type of bird. In one episode, these two cartoon characters get into an argument and decide to resolve the problem with a simple game of rock-paper-scissors. I can honestly say I wasted five minutes of my life watching these two talking cartoon animals play rock-paper-scissors, with intense background music. After 100 times of getting a draw in rock-paper-scissors, for some miraculous reason, it created a whole in the universe and a gigantic monster came out and began to eat everybody and every thing. At the end, the two characters saved the world by overcoming their issues and finishing their game of rock-paper-scissors. This all happened in fifteen minutes..

I remember when I was little, I would wake up to watch The Powerpuff Girls, Tom and Jerry, or Rugrats. Even my parents would watch with me and we would all have a good laugh. Whereas, my parents do not watch cartoons with my little brother.

Although I do miss the old cartoons from my childhood and it pains me to see them fade away, maybe these new cartoons don't necessarily suck. Maybe the cartoon preferences of the children from the 90's and the children of the 21st century are just completely different, and I am growing up.

New Girl

Starting Fall 2011, FOX released a variety of new television series. From a fiction drama "Terra Nova" to a new game show "Take the Money and Run". Among them is the captivating and humorous TV series "New Girl". Rated 7.7 out of 10 by the Internet Movie Data Base, New Girl is full of potential and is quickly becoming one of FOX's top-rated TV shows.

I came across "New Girl" one Tuesday evening while talking on the phone. Needing a bit of privacy, I shut my bedroom door and turned my television on high volume; which coincidentally happens to be on FOX channel 2. After a brief conversation, I told my friend I had to go because homework was piling up and an essay was due the next day..

"Jess!"
"Who's Jess? You're talking to.... (whisper)'Tiger Boobs'. (She removes her long coat)  Bu-bum--bu-bum-bu-bum-bu-bu-bummm. Who's that girl? Whooo's that girrrrrrl!? Hah. It's Jess!"
Jess, with only a pillow covering her body, begins to prance around while singing to her boyfriend. The half-naked man, comes out the bedroom and as Jess turns around she is flabbergasted. Another woman with nothing but a tank top and panties on is in the apartment with her boyfriend.

My first thoughts were: Ouch! Caught red-handed! And why is this so called 'Jess' singing while nude?

Unable to resist, I watched the entire episode.

Like many other sitcoms, the story plot of "New Girl" revolves around good-hearted, yet careless, young singles.

The story begins with Zooey Deschanel from "500 Days of Summer", starring as the quirky Jess Day. In an attempt to surprise her boyfriend, she went home sooner than expected and found her boyfriend fooling around with another woman. Instead of trying to "work things out", she decided to move out.

On Craiglist she found three bachelors looking for a fourth roommate, and goes for an interview. In a vote of 2 to 1, Jess makes the cut and moves in. The men consists of a jock that is socially awkward around women and goes by the name Coach. Nick, the sensitive fellow out of the three. And the average American bachelor, Schmidt, a ladies-man that almost never gets the ladies and is always striving to get to the next level in his career. Together, the men assists Jess in overcoming the depression of a horrible break-up, while in turn, Jess plays a huge impact on each of the men.

Overall, the social awkwardness, catchy theme song, humorous dialogues, and real life situations makes this enthralling TV series worth watching on Tuesday nights at 8pm.

[Although I would not recommend this for young audiences, due to the fact it does contain some filthy humor.]
